Park Bellevue School is located in Marseilles, in the south
of France by the Mediterranean Sea. Our school is situated
in a very poor area in the north part of the city. It holds
256 pupils from 6 to 11, 16 teachers, 3 assistants and a
librarian. We received the European Label for Learning
Languages in 2006 from the European Union.
All the children come from a foreign background (North
Africa, Comorian Islands, Tchetchenia....) and French is not
their mother tongue.
We organize a lot of activities after school and during the
holidays to prevent them from staying in the streets such as
Sport, English, Spanish, Computers, Bellydancing, Capoiera,
Homework, trips to Paris and England, going to Museums, to
the Public Library, to theatres, to cinemas.
We invite children from other countries to visit us (from
Peru, South Africa, New Zealand, Russia, Mexico...) and we
try to get there too.
We write small books about all these various countries and
use them in school to study.
We send our teachers abroad to study English (in 1995 and
2009) in order to improve their skills.
We organize a school for non speaking French parents
We are considered being a kind of pilot school because of
all these activities which are rather unusual for French
schools!.
