A Visit to Falkansee Town Hall (Classes 3b and 3i)

Hello to everyone, it’s me Knut! Here you can read my report about visiting the Mayor of Falkensee.

On Thursday, 19th February 2009, the pupils of the classes 3b and 3i took me to the Town Hall Falkensee. There we met the Mayor, Mr Heiko Müller. The children had a nice talk with him about their hometown Falkensee. They wanted to know lots of important and interesting things.

We were in the conference room that is special because of its window panes. These panes are coloured and show the history of Falkensee.

So I have learned some interesting facts:

  • The community Falkensee was founded in1923 by uniting the two villages of Falkenhagen and Seegefeld

  • The community grew and got lager. In 1961 the town Falkensee was founded. At that time the town had about 20,000 inhabitants.

The Falkensee coat of arms

  • There were six schools in Falkensee, lots of sports clubs, one cinema and some factories, e.g. plastics-processing industry, jewellery making, furniture industry and machine building for agriculture.

  • After the Fall of the Wall in 1989 the town extended more and more. Many Berlin inhabitants moved house to Falkensee, because they wanted to live in a green aria.

  • Nowadays Falkensee has 40,000 inhabitants. There are 5 primary school, two secondary schools, 2 grammar schools, a conservatory and lots of day nurseries.

  • To spend their leisure time, children and adults can choose between the different sports clubs, can go to the cinema, to the outdoor swimming-pool or to concerts in the town hall.

The Mayor Mr Müller told the pupils something about his job, as well. He always has to be patient to manage and solve all the different problems in the town.

Sitting on Jonas’ lap I paid attention to all the questions the children were interested in.

Finally, we visited the Register Office. This is a special room I the town hall where people can marry when they are at least 18 years old.

It was a nice trip that day. We thanked the Mayor and his co-operators. Although we all were a bit tired we were happy about that visit.

Yours, Knut
